A personal studio

Motivation and dedication aim to be the sword and cape of this independent art project.

Building worlds piece by piece

My drawers are full of board games I created in a burst of inspiration, driven by the urge to build a small world. It’s easy: in just a few hours, a few days, a complete idea takes shape. They’re simple worlds, governed by a few fundamental rules that force you to make decisions and find strategies, all contained within that little universe of rules.

A place has been born, a fantasy, an experience by an author.

I add a little programming. Instead of drawing on cardboard, I draw on a plastic board that paints on the screen, and then the magic happens: a character moves without being touched. Instead of complex mechanics for moving cards, pieces and resources, automation kicks in and the world grows much bigger.

I wouldn’t want to diminish the pleasure of a board game: holding your character in your hand, cradling the great treasure you’ve collected, rolling a die... But I’m a world-builder, and when an idea becomes programmable, a video game is born. A living universe, impossible to create by hand, with so many things happening at once that all you have to do is play. I don’t need to write a bigger manual, just learn how to program it.

And now that I’d learned, all that time I’d invested, so precious and scarce, was vanishing because of a bigger automation called AI. I’m saved. A technology that lets me create in natural language what used to require isolated words, freeing me to focus my work on conceiving an idea. How do I avoid feeling like such a creator now that I’ve stopped mining code and become a full-time creative director?

It’s time to start my own studio, it’s time to create like crazy. To live by creating, to experiment, to pour myself into every detail until it’s just as I imagined... this is my moment as an author.

And so I’m stepping back into the arena. Ladies and gentlemen of this scene, hang up your hats; the real world is overflowing outside. Today, we’ll delve into the creative process. Enjoy this excerpt from my artist’s mind, whose show is about to begin. I present myself as I am: a creative, and my craft is to usher you in, because today this dreamer’s studio begins its new run.

Estudio SKR begins today.
